Champions League Prediction for Group D, F & H
In this article we will give an analysis of specific teams in several of the Champions League groups. This is the biggest tournament for a huge part of the clubs and here it’s the apple pie in financial terms. Each team tries to get into the next round at all costs and during this campaign we will have some full debutants. In the new season there are groups that have clear favorites with expectation of almost certainly going through and there are several “groups of death”. We will focus on harder groups where forces are pretty equal and odds are worth it.
NOTE : Different team bets in the same group CAN NOT be combined. Different bets can only be combined in different groups. We recommend singles or in combination with a maximum of 2 more bets. The rest predictions you can read in our other article related to the Champions League.
PREVIEW AND PREDICTIONS FOR FEW OF THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GROUPS
2. Manchester United
4. Young Boys
Juventus to finish first – 1.50
This group is extremely interesting and exciting. Not only because of Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford. Overall, it would be interesting for the Portuguese to play in the Champions League with another team after he was scoring goal after goal in Real Madrid shirt. He has not scored a goal since the start of the season for Juventus and good performance in the Champions League will have a good effect on him. It is also interesting after last year’s crash with Sevilla whether Mourinho will be able to make a better run in this tournament. Young Boys are dangerous team and the Swiss have the strength to surprise every team in the group. Valencia have not been at this level since last year, but they still have chances. Juventus and United are expected to fight for the first place. Juventus missed the champions league trophy in their strongest years lately and now with Ronaldo in the squad, Bianconeri hope to finally come to the end. We think Juventus have more quality than United in terms of individuals, in terms of bigger squad, but mostly in terms of playing in easier league. And the team condition and atmosphere are much better than United ones. The Red Devils have a lot of difficulties in the championship and all eyes are on Mourinho. Aiming in the round of 16 is number one priority for the English side, but they will hardly have the strength to replace Juventus from the top. Rather, it is important to try to avoid surprises from the other two teams in the group and dealing with the hard schedule of Premier League matches will be a serious task for them, while Juventus, just like PSG, can afford changes in the matches of the local championship, as they will almost certainly dominate the Italian championship this season as well.
1. Manchester City
4. Shakhtar Donetsk
Lyon NOT to qualify – 1.72
In this group we obviously have a obvious favorite and hardly anyone will even hope to replace Manchester City in the first place. But the battle for the second position in the table will be epic. At first, the other three teams are relatively equal. Hoffenheim will participate for the first time in the tournament, and Shakhtar last year made a great campaign and went through for the round of 16 instead of Napoli and Feyenoord. They were even close to the quarterfinals, but they got eliminated from Roma, because of an away goal. Lyon sold Diaz to Real Madrid. They kept Fekir and bought Moussa Dembele from Celtic as a replacement for Diaz. Still, Lyon shows a weak shape. Hoffenheim, on the other hand, looks strong and they are the team in top shape. This can be transferred to the Champions League. Shakhtar also have ambitions to reach at least round of 16 once again and have already shown that they are very cohesive and motivated in this tournament. At paper, Lyon lowest odd to qualify after Man City, but we think the French will not be able to reach the second position. Visits are a serious problem for them and if they don’t win points as hosts, which is quite possible, they will most likely got kicked out of the tournament.
1. Schalke 04
4. Lokomotiv Moscow
Lokomotiv Moscow NOT to qualify – 1.56
Many people are dissatisfied with the existence of this group, because the teams, that have been gathered here, hardly have any chances if they meet the big teams in the finals and this is not so entertaining for the neutral spectator. This, however, is not important and specifically for these teams, the group is great. Everyone has chances. The biggest outsider at paper is the team that actually comes from the first pot. This is Lokomotiv Moscow. Due to the high odd of Russia and the new rules, the Russian champion is already in the first pot, as do the other champions of the big European leagues. Lokomotiv bought the long-time captain of Schalke, Howedes and Smolov and they did not sell any key player, respectively they got better in the summer as a squad. However, they have little experience in the Champions League and are generally not good enough to reach one of the first two places. They can get draws, but winning is a tricky task. And with draws there is no way to go on. Schalke and Porto are the favorites to go through. In such a group, perhaps a bit stronger, Porto finished first in the last year. Schalke also have experience and have often qualified from the group stage and in recent years the Germans have been unable to participate in the tournament, so they now have a serious chance of doing something more interesting. Galatasaray are a serious rival who can make others suffer for sure. Their matches with Lokomotiv will be quite exciting. At odds of around 1.55, we expect Lokomotiv Moscow not to qualify in this group.
