UEFA Champions League group stages – Predictions
Here we will provide predictions for two of the Italian teams in the Champions League groups for this season. As the odds are separately low for the long-term predictions, the two bets are combined into a single bet slip. We are betting on 2 of the biggest names in Italian football – Juventus and Inter. Juve are favorites in their group, but Nerazurri are in the “group of death” for the second consecutive year.
Analysis and predictions for some of the Groups in Champions League
2. Borussia Dortmund
4. Slavia Prague
Prediction : Inter to qualify
Inter were one win at home against PSV last game of the Champions League groups last year to reach the round of 16. PSV did not fight for anything at the time and were really the weakest team in the group, but Inter were still unable to win and so Tottenham went ahead because of a goal on a foreign pitch in matches with Inter. For 2nd year in a row Nerazurri fall into a similar group. Barcelona are with them again, this time in place of Tottenham and PSV are Borussia Dortmund and Slavia Prague. There is no surprise for this, because Inter started from the third pot. The main favorite in the group is Barcelona, and Inter and Borussia are likely to argue for third place. We are betting this time on Inter.
The team has a new coach, Antonio Conte. We believe that Conte is one of the strongest coaches in the world and has a lot of experience in his career. He has attracted Lukaku and Sanchez from United, and these are too classy players who can unleash their potential in Italy. Borussia Dortmund now look scary too, but Inter are playing good in the Champions League and traditions are on their side. Conte is a good tactician who can outplay even Barcelona in some of the games. The bet is not very sure, but it is worth trying because of the new look of Inter, and especially because of their coach.
2. Atletico Madrid
3. Bayer Leverkusen
4. Lokomotiv Moscow
Prediction : Juventus to finish 1st in the group
Juventus have stepped up in the transfer window for a number of years. Bianconeri politics is well known. Rabiot and Ramsey are the new names in the midfield and they, of course, came as free agents, which is typical of the Turin club. The most important transfer, however, was that of Matthias de Ligt, attracted by Ajax for a huge sum. Juventus are champions of Italy every year, but the Champions League remains a priority for the club.
They attracted Ronaldo for 100 million last year for this very purpose – to lift the trophy, but eventually dropped from Ajax to the quarterfinals. In the groups, however, they are always very serious and rarely fail. We expect them to finish in 1st place as their only competitor for this, Atletico, is not one of the most stable teams in the Champions League lately and often have problems in the groups. It is important to note that Juventus has too wide squad and can afford to play at the top level twice a week.
