😵 City want to forget their last official game
Manchester City ended the pre-World Cup part of the season very badly with a 1-2 loss to Brentford. Then played a friendly with Girona and beat them 2-0 5 days ago. Quite a few of City’s players are still resting after the World Cup. They have been League Cup champions quite a few times in recent years, so they will certainly take the tournament as seriously as possible, even if they play with some reserves in this game against Liverpool.
👌Liverpool look for 3rd consecutive win against Man City this season
Liverpool finished with 2 wins in the Premier League and a near perfect record in the Champions League before the World Cup. They do, however, have a lot of catching up to do in league points. The Reds are the current League Cup champions. One of the 2 domestic tournaments that Klopp was accused of not taking seriously enough in. The truth, however, is that in the League Cup, for example, Liverpool almost always got knocked out by some top team or due to specific circumstances like that 0-5 loss to Aston Villa when they had to go out with the youths years ago due to the first team being in Asia at the Club World Cup.
⚽ Both teams will play with some reserves but Liverpool’s style always portends corners
Both Man City and Liverpool are expected to play some first team players, but also some solid reserves and juniors, so there will be a mix with both 2 teams. Apart from the lack of clarity on the teams’ status right now after the World Cup + given that it’s a League Cup game, and then the busy cycle around Christmas and New Year, it’s completely unclear what we can expect from the 2 teams. As always, of course, Man City are the favourites, including for things like corners, and Liverpool, in fact, are a team that make quite a few of those and to give them odds of 1.57 for 4 corners is too good an offer. Prediction – Liverpool – Over 3.5 corners at 1.57.
