Football recap | Who won, who lost and what’s next in 2025?
Football excitement has reached new heights this season, and major tournaments and finals continue to cause a real furore among fans around the world.
So far in the 2025 season, we have witnessed the drama of the King’s Cup, the unexpected Europa League win, and these were just some of the exciting encounters.
Today, we look ahead to the Champions League final and the upcoming Club World Cup, which will change the history of the greatest game forever. Stay tuned to Betinum to see what the football recap has been so far!
Tottenham triumph over Manchester United in Europa League
“Spurs” beat their English rivals 1-0 in the Europa League thanks to Brendan Johnson, who scored the only goal in the 42nd minute. The match was historic because it was Tottenham’s first title since the UEFA Cup days.

It was this match that guaranteed Agne Postecoglou’s team participation in the Champions League in the upcoming season. The level of football intrigue rose significantly in the 69th minute when United were a whisker away from an equalising goal.
There, Johnson was uncompromising against the Red Devils players, and Micky van de Ven cleared the ball just in front of the goal line.
Our predictions came true – Tottenham were cautious, tensions peaked and no more than 2 goals were scored for the game.
The long-awaited Champions League final – Paris Saint-Germain vs Inter Milan
On 31 May 2025, one of the most anticipated Champions League finals took place at the Allianz Arena in Munich, where Paris Saint-Germain defeated Inter Milan 5-0, winning their first title in the tournament.
It was the most emphatic win in the history of Champions League finals.
Young talent Desiree Douet was outstanding with two goals and an assist, deservedly receiving the Player of the Match award. The others who signed for the Parisians were Ashraf Hakimi (12th minute), Khvicha Kwaratzhelia (73rd minute) and Seni Mayulu (86th minute).
Under Luis Enrique, PSG achieved a historic treble including the Ligue 1, Coupe de France and Champions League titles.
Unfortunately for the Nerazzurri fans, Inter’s seventh final in the tournament ended without a trophy and with a crushing result in favour of the opponent.

This final was the first since 2004 without a representative from England, Spain or Germany. The winner of the Champions League title, PSG, will face Europa League winner Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup in August 2025.
King’s Cup drama – Barcelona beat Real Madrid
On 26 April, the third treble on Barça’s account became a fact, as it became the first team with such an achievement. With two trebles is only Bayern Munich, when their coach is again Hanzi Flick.
At the La Cartuja stadium in Sevilla, Pedri’s goal with an assist from young Lamin Yamal gave the Catalans peace of mind in the first half.
One of the big surprises of the game was the substitute bench for Mbappé during the first 45 minutes, but after Carlo Ancelotti put him in the game the score was level.
What followed was a 77th-minute turnover for the Whites on Arda Guehler’s account, a Torres counter for 2-2 and a controversial penalty for Barcelona inside added time.

The golden chance for the Catalans came in the 116th minute with the performance of Jules Cunde. Thibaut Courtois was caught off guard in the bottom right corner after an error by Luka Modric, resulting in a 3-2 final scoreline for Barça.
Club World Cup 2025 | What’s coming this summer?
The 21st edition of the championship will take place in the United States of America from June 15 to July 13. For the first time, 32 teams will take part, and its format suggests that the event will now take place every 4 years.
We will witness the distribution of 4 teams in 8 groups, with only the first and second teams advancing to the Eight Finals. The quota selection principle is the mechanism for determining the contenders. UEFA will have the most weight, followed by the South American confederation and the other championships.
Some of the teams confirmed to be watching this summer are Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Inter, Paris Saint-Germain and many more.
