Soft and Sharp bookmakers
The sports betting industry is divided into two main groups, soft and sharp bookmakers. In this article we share what the differences are and where it is easier to win.
1. Sharp Bookmakers
Pinnacle – the sharpest in the world
The business model of sharp bookmakers is based on high turnover and low margins. The margins of their odds are about 2%, while that of European bookmakers such as Bet365 is on average about 7%. (What is the margin and how it is determined you can see in my article on How the odds work).
The consequences of low margins are that the odds are much higher than European bookmakers and reflect much more accurately the real probability of an event happening.
Although they provide the highest odds on the market, they are much harder to beat than soft (European bookmakers) because their odds are determined by the best analysts in the world and by the market itself, and are corrected by complex mathematical models, making them much faster to respond to market changes.
For example, when the news comes out that Messi will be absent from a PSG match, professional bettors like Tony Bloom will bet hundreds of thousands through their unions on a certain bet influenced by the news, in Asian houses and for this reason there will first adjust the odds to real, much faster than those in Europe.
Sharp bookmakers like Pinnacle Sports are places where professional sports bettors play, as they don’t limit winning players there. That is why the odds provided by the sharp bookmakers are the most accurate reflection of the result of the game, because they allow the sharpest and smartest bettors to play there and update them using their information.
Summary
- Who are they? Pinnacle, Singbet, BetISN, Betfair exchanges, Smarket, BetinAsia brokers, Sportmarket.
- How do they earn? Profit based on high turnover and low margin.
- Advantage: Players will not be restricted.
- Disadvantage: Rapid changes in the odds based on the bets of the sharpest players on the market, automatic changes (using a mathematical model), and convergent movements of the odds between sharp bookmakers.
- Market segment: They are aimed at professional players (so you will not find ads on TV, cash-out options, bonuses, etc.), including arbors, etc.
2. Soft Bookmakers
Bet365 (Winbet, Bwin, 1xbet, Betfair)
Their business model is the exact opposite of sharp bookmakers. They offer very high margins, on average between 5% and 10%, which respectively leads to the most unattractive betting odds such as an event that has a 50% chance of happening such as tossing a coin, heads and tales, they will offer a odds of 1.80, instead of real 2.00, i.e 0.2 is the margin in this case.
But, despite the unattractive odds, they are easier to win because they adjust their lines and odds manually or copy them from sharp bookmakers. So, for example, when something changes in the market, such as the news that Messi will not play for PSG, there is a greater delay between the news and the change in the odds. And here is the moment when we from Betinum appear through our subscriptions and send you valuable bets based on certain news that have not yet been covered by bookmakers.
The disadvantage of this business model is that they invest most of their revenue mainly in advertising and marketing to attract gamblers, gambling amateurs, just amateurs and generally losing bettors and when you start making money from them they just limit you. Every soft bookmaker has a different time and profit when they will limit you, but looking at their business model it is clear that they do not want to work with people who make valuable bets and will eliminate you sooner or later.
Therefore, our goal with the two subscriptions we play with European bookmakers (Premium and VIP) is to earn enough money and then invest some or all of them in Asian homes, where it will be more difficult, but longer term.
However, we at Betinum have made the most complete guide on how to avoid limitations and continue to earn from European bookmakers and we have helped dozens of people to remove their account limits, so that this is possible with us and every customer has access to this article in our guides.
Summary
- Who are they? Bet365, Efbet, Bwin, 8888.bg and almost everything you can think of
- How do they earn? Profit based on high margins and ordinary bettors
- Advantage: Odds change much more slowly
- Disadvantage: They do not like the winners and limit them
- Target market segment: Targeted at ordinary, casual entertainment gamblers who lose in the long run
3. Summary
I hope you understand why new and new soft bookmakers are constantly being created, namely because they are aimed at the largest customer segment, ordinary players and thus they make a lot of money. But in reality, their service does not add value to people, and for this reason we from Betinum, like Robin Hood, came to take from the rich and allow our customers to take advantage, because the conditions of the game are unfair. Very often we witness extremely dishonest actions by European bookmakers just to limit our profits.
Which one to use
It depends on many things, especially your bank and experience. If you have a smaller bank and no experience, of course, it will be easier for you at Bet365, but if you are experienced, as we thought they were our customers, so we created an Asian subscription where most of them benefited, but they know that it is much more difficult and it is good that the bank is higher.
You’ve probably heard someone mention “Asian houses.” You have probably wondered who they are and what is the difference with the bookmakers in our country.
In this video, I share with you the difference between European (soft, soft) bookmakers and Asian (sharp, sharp) houses. In addition to the difference, you will learn where it is easier to win and which one to choose.
If you want to win sports bets, it is important to be aware of one of the most important things, namely which platform meets your needs and where to bet your money.
